Since sin entered the world, people have been devising new ways to turn against one another and do violence to the dignity of their fellow image-bearer. In our generation this assault is pronounced, specifically in the wanton discarding of hundreds of thousands of unborn lives every year.
Our views of human dignity not only show up at election time, they show up in the way we treat our fellow human being. Do we use our voices and resources to speak up for those who have no voice?
Today let’s pause and consider what the gospel tells us about human dignity. Let’s look to Christ, who is the perfect image of God, not only as our example, but as the perfect God-man who defeated the curse of sin and death that often moves us toward violence. His bodily resurrection gives dignity to our fragile frame and offers the hope that we too will rise, body and soul, one day in glory.
